Miss Lori T., Lead Teacher
We met Lori many years ago working at another center. A short time later, she
came to work for me at my former center. Lori was promoted to an assistant
director then eventually she was promoted to center director in Lee's Summit.
Lori was a fine director, however, the corporation closed her center and Lori
came back up north as an assistant director. After earning her Associate's
Degree in education at Maple Woods Community College, Lori began working on her
bachelor's degree. Lori has worked in the early childhood education field since
1997.
As the mother of a beautiful daughter, Destiny, Lori knows the
importance of a quality program. Destiny recently started elementary school, so
she is keeping her mom even busier. Lori enjoys volleyball and softball and
coaches soccer, volleyball and basketball! Talk about busy!
Miss MaryAnn, Teacher, Platte
City
MaryAnn began working for our
director, Jan, while she was still in high school. After graduating, she went to
work full time in the preschool program. MaryAnn spent the next 5 years working
with many ages. In the summer of 2003, she gave birth to her daughter, Olivia.
Olivia is the light of MaryAnn's life and the pride and joy of MaryAnn's mom and
dad, Patti and Lane Walker. MaryAnn's mom, Patti, also works here at Spectrum
Station.
Miss Kathy, Teacher
Miss Kathy joined the Spectrum Station team
in June of 2007. When she retired from Hallmark Card in 2004 with 24+ years of
service, Kathy became the caregiver for her nephews. After several years with
her nephews, Kathy decided to return to work and she was referred to us. We
grabbed her up quickly and found a place for her in our infant program.
Born and raised in Independence, Missouri,
Kathy graduated from Fort Osage High School. She has one grown son, Bryan, who
is married to daughter-in-law, Kristy. They have three children-Jeff, MacInzy,
and KaeLynn, whom grandma, Kathy, loves to spoil. Kathy loves to take the girls
shopping, as well as reading and cooking.
Miss Lou, Assistant Teacher
Lou began her career in early childhood education over seven years ago and still
finds working with infants very rewarding. She has worked with Jan Powell,
Director of Spectrum Station, for over four years. She is a very qualified
teacher for infants since she also has a lot of experience as a grandmother to
her young granddaughter.
Miss Maureen, Teacher
Maureen officially joined Spectrum Station in May, although she has been a part
of Spectrum from the beginning assisting with the development of the infant
classrooms. She now works full time in the infant program.
Maureen previously worked alongside the management staff for four
years. She began working with children in her church nursery when she was seven.
She has worked in childcare since 1995 and has been with the infants throughout
that time. After high school, Maureen took classes in nursing and received a
degree in domestic economics. She also worked as a Quality Inspector at a sewing
factory and assisted in providing military supplies during Vietnam.
Maureen married and in 1970 became a mother. She has three beautiful
children (now fully grown). Maureen is now enjoying the perks of being the
grandmother of two adorable grandchildren.
Miss Terry, Teacher
many of our team joins us after they spend years working in other fields. They
more often than not, are looking for a job that can make a difference in the
lives of children. Terry is that person. Terry joined our team in October of
2004. After high school and college, Terry worked for Southwestern Bell and
Heartland Health Hospital. She spent the last 18 years as an apartment complex
manager. As her husband neared retirement, Terry began looking for that special
job to make a difference. Both of Terry's daughters have their children at our
center and urged Terry to come to work here. We're glad she did.
Terry has two daughters, two son-in-laws, four granddaughters and one
grandson. While spending time with her family keeps Terry very busy, she finds
time to collect pottery mugs and go fishing with her husband.
Miss Sandy, Assistant Teacher
a funny thing happened to Sandy on the way to her first day at Spectrum Station
in April of 2005. She was in an accident and severely injured her hand and
wrist. While this might have slowed some other people down, Sandy worked through
it, part time at first, but moving to full time. Sandy hails from Liberty. She
graduated from Liberty High School. Sandy has several years of experience
working with children in a child care setting. She also has banking and clerical
experience.
Sandy is the mother of three, Candace, Curtis,
and Steven. She and her children also have 2 dogs and 2 cats! Camping and
fishing are family favorites, as well as just about any sports.
Miss Brenna, Teacher
Brenna joined the infant program at Spectrum Station in April of 2006. We
immediately knew it was a good choice. She is comfortable, very interactive and
loving with our infants. Brenna attended Winnetonka High School in the
Northland. She is furthering her education taking on-line classes.
Brenna loves infants and toddlers and knows this is where education
begins! She and her fiancé Paul, live at home with their young son, George.
Playing with George and their dogs is just one or the ways this busy mom spends
her "spare“ time. The whole family loves to spend time outdoors.
Miss Britany H, Lead Teacher
Britany joined the Spectrum Station team January of 2006. Britany attends Maple
Woods Community College where she is completing her Associate's degree in early
childhood education. She plans to continue toward her Bachelor's degree in
Elementary Education. Her goal is to teach second graders! Britany graduated
from Liberty High School where she worked in the Early Childhood Center for 2
years. Britany feels that the experience she gains here will make her an even
better teacher.
Britany lives at home with mom (Angela) and dad (Damon) plus siblings,
older brother Micah, and younger siblings, Keith and Joshua (who attend our
center). When not at work or school, Britany enjoys reading and acting. Britany
works afternoons in our infant programs.
Miss Sara, Teacher
Sara has always loved spending
time with children. From the time she was ten until she turned 16 she was the
constant babysitter for a family of three. After graduating from high school in
2005, Sara knew that she wanted to go into teaching. After having her daughter
Emma, and enrolling her here at our center, she decided that this was the place
she wanted to begin her teaching career. She joined our staff in October of
2007.
Sara enjoys spending her free time with Emma
and her new husband. She also enjoys reading and spending time outside.
Miss Theresa W., Assistant
Teacher
Theresa joined our staff in
September of 2006. She attended college at CMSU, and taught kindergarten for
two years.
Her love of children and watching them grow
is what drew her to Spectrum Station. Theresa has one son of her own, who lives
in Pennsylvania, and loves to spend time with her nieces children, which are two
and four. In her spare time she enjoys sewing and going to all the local events
that she can.
Miss Brianna, Teacher
Brianna
began working at Spectrum Station in January of 2008. After spending just a few
minutes with her, we knew she would be a very valuable addition to our staff.
Brianna has been working with children since junior high with her church. She
was home schooled and enjoyed helping out there as much as possible. Brianna
lives in Belton with her husband Ray, and they can't wait to have children of
their own.
In
her free time, Brianna loves to spend as much time as she can with her family
and friends. She loves four wheeling and watching movies! We are very glad to
have her on our team!
