Prekindergarten/Private Kindergarten:

Prekindergarten
Our prekindergarten is available for children who will attend kindergarten the following school year.

A major role of early childhood education is to prepare the preschooler for kindergarten. School readiness is more than memorizing letters and their sounds; it is more than simple counting and writing. While important, focusing on the social and emotional development of every pre-k child is essential for success in school. All children need to be able to participate in classroom activities, share, handle conflicts, work in groups and alone. Children who develop positive self esteem and confidence in themselves are able to be more successful in school.

Our prekindergarten program uses the Missouri department of education guidelines for pre-kindergarten curriculum as its basis for lesson planning and implementation. The classroom climate is active; one in which children interact with each other and materials while engaging in cooperative hands-on learning experiences. Progress is tracked using portfolios and progress reports.

Enriched play experiences form the heart of a developmentally appropriate program. Our teachers create learning environments and construct experiences within the classroom and discovery centers that enrich play and learning. Adding themed related materials to existing discovery centers enriches this learning experience. This enables pre-k children to make their own discoveries and actively construct their knowledge of the world.

Private kindergarten/Accelerated Prekindergarten
An effective kindergarten program addresses the needs of the whole child-mentally, physically, emotionally and socially! The kindergarten program at Spectrum Station is designed to present and explore learning materials in ways that meet individual learning styles of each child. Our class size is small with a teacher to child ratio of 1 to 10, substantially smaller than the public school system. Learning is presented through discovery centers, individual and small groups , as well as whole class activities. These various approaches better prepare your child for first grade. Our program follows the Missouri Department of Education guidelines for kindergarten curriculum to develop lesson plans and learning experiences. In addition to well planned lessons and learning experiences, Spectrum Station has an early reader program, Hooked On Phonics, available for a small additional fee.

Each month, your child’s teacher will provide parent’s with an activity calendar with information about the themes and learning materials covered throughout the month. Daily communication provides parents an insight into the world of your kindergartener.
In order to meet the needs of the child who misses the public school age cut off, Spectrum Station allows early admission for children who miss the state age cut-off by 3 months or less.

School Age Program:

When School is Not In Session...
We offer childcare for your school-age child whenever school is not in session. We require 24 hours notice prior to attending. For more information on our "no-school" day program, please contact the administrative staff at Spectrum Station.

Our Summer Camp Program...
The key to keeping school-age children happy is to keep them busy with a variety of developmentally appropriate activities and experiences available to them throughout the day. They need to be able to make choices and decisions on their own in an environment that supports them.

Throughout the summer, our school-agers will go on a variety of field trips to favorite Kansas City locations such as Science City, the Kansas City Zoo, roller skating, bowling, northland parks and much more! In addition to field trips away from the center, Spectrum Station brings a variety of entertainment and entertainers to the center. A live petting zoo, magician, puppet show, moonwalk and clowns are just a few of the exciting events we feature. We charge a one-time activity fee which covers all of the field trips.

School-age children first grade and older have a private classroom, specifically designed with fun in mind. Each week enrichments and activities, which correspond with our summer themes, are added to the centers. Throughout the day, children are able to choose what interests them, rather than have activities chosen for them.

Our outside playscapes are more like a park than a playground. They offer a shaded picnic area, swings, large playground equipment, basketball court and plenty of green lawn with space to run.
